The Multidisciplinary Center for Environmental Research (NMPA) (under implementation) aims at assessing and reducing the environmental and toxicological impact of emission by vehicles powered by biofuels (ethanol and biodiesel). The photochemical processes occurring in urban atmosphere with vehicle emissions, can be simulated in chambers, interfaced to the camera a modern set of analyzers including gas chromatograph coupled to a mass spectrometer, in order to determine the generated pollutants.
There is currently a Horiba analyzers capable to do air quality analysis monitoring the following compounds:
- Carbon Monoxide (CO) - Operating range (0 to 50 ppm)
- Carbon dioxide (CO2) - Operating range (0 to 5,000 ppm)
- Nitrogen oxides (NOx) - Operating range (0 to 0.5 ppm)
- Sulfur dioxide (SO2) - Operating range (0 to 0.5 ppm)
- Ozone (O3) - Operating range (0 to 0.5 ppm)
- Methane (CH4) - Operating range (0-50 ppm)
- Non-methane hydrocarbons (HC) - Operating range (0-50 ppm)
The NMPA is managed by the Analytical Center of IQUSP.
